The Law Clinic is a UIT club with an educational and social mission: it strengthens law students’ training through hands-on experience that serves the community.
Learning law by doing
Supervised by their professors, lawyers, NGOs, companies and institutions, students work on real cases. This integrated training strengthens their skills, their knowledge and their sense of responsibility, while helping them become more independent.
Areas of work
Litigation
Working on real litigation files and situations.
Transactional work
An introduction to negotiation and drafting agreements.
Support for associations
Legal support for civil-society organisations.
Legislative advocacy
Analysis of and proposals on legislation.
Mediation
Amicable resolution of disputes.
Internships
Hands-on experience alongside legal practitioners.
A concept born at university
The idea of the law clinic emerged in the early 20th century from the work of two law professors, and the first legal clinic opened in 1904 at the University of Denver. In the French-speaking world, law clinics appeared much more recently and are still rare in universities.
